ALC 10 Day 5 - Red Dress Day

Day 5 is a rest day, only 41 miles from Santa Maria to Lompoc. There are a few hills, but nothing major. It's also Red Dress Day, where many riders don red dresses of every description: tutus, evening gowns, kilts, Roman soldier outfits, you name it. One group had body stocking with red bikini's painted on them and wore gold corn-row wigs - they were the Bo Dereks. One guy is famous for wearing 8 inch spike heals, with SPD cleats. There is a contest at one of the rest stops for the most - outrageous? - outfit.

My strategy for day 5 is to go as slow as possible, spinning easily on the flats, creeping up the climbs, and coasting on the descents. I never went out of my small ring. Oh, and no dress for either Bruce or me. I did wear a red jersey and red Headsweat. Bruce also had a red jersey and some flashy red soccer socks.

We got back to camp just after noon, showered, and took a shuttle bus into Lompoc. Their, we found a nice coffee house, sat next to a power outlet and charged up our GPS's and my external battery pack.

No GPS track for me on this ride. I decided I didn't want to know how slow I was going.
