Day 6 starts with a 15 mile climb up highway 101. It's not very steep, it just goes on forever. I felt great. My strategy for a recovery ride on Day 5 worked to perfection. I didn't even mind all the traffic, I just hammered away.
Paradise Pit is a rest stop set up by the city of Santa Barbara for the riders. They served several flavors of ice cream, fresh fruit, cookies, and all kinds of other treats. They really do a nice job.
The last 20 miles of this ride features long stretches on 101 again. There is a wide bike lane, and with a nice tailwind, it goes by fast. Still, the traffic is deafening. It's hard to enjoy the beautiful ocean views.
About 10 miles from Ventura, we pulled into a rest stop and unleashed our secret weapon for the trip - Cliff Double Espresso and Mocha Gel Shots. The combination of caffeine and sugar gives you a "turbo boost" and makes the last few miles fly by.
The camp in Ventura is right next to the beach. There is a candlelight vigil on the beach after the evening program that is quite moving. This time, however, neither Bruce nor I wanted to brave the cool, breezy evening and decided to turn in early.
Here's the GPS track for Day 6.
