Rushing Russian River Ride, July 3, 2011
Was this a hot day? You betcha! Was this a good route for a hot day? You betcha, too! Riders were Mark, Paul and me along with Linda and Jim riding their tandem. We went into Windsor on Conde Rd and headed west to Eastside Road via Windsor River road. From there we went south, crossed the Wholer bridge to Westside Road and continued south again connecting with River Road where we went west into Guerneville for a short stop.
After watering up and eating a few energy bars, we crossed the river and rode up Mays Canyon Rd. Next it was a short section on Hwy 116 then we turned onto Green Valley Rd., grunted up the short but steep grade and cruised into Graton. Up to this point we had benefited from very shaded, cool roads. Now we were back in the sun, so we skipped making a stop and pressed on to beat the heat. Except for one wrong turn, the ride back was smooth and we finished up right around noon before the afternoon heated up more. Nice ride.
